Multiple Grammy-winning producer/engineer/mixer, Jim Scott, has worked with many artists since his start with Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles three decades ago. His discography lists over 200 credits on his website including Dixie Chicks, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, Roger Daltrey, Crowded House, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ron Sexsmith, Dweezil Zappa, Styx, Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash, Rage Against The Machine, Santana, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Nikka Costa, Weezer, and Audioslave. So many great records I had to stop writing them down.

Jim has recorded and mixed records with Rick Rubin and also with our previous guest on the podcast Richard Dodd on Tom Petty’s Wildflowers. In 2006, he built Plyrz Studio in Valencia, CA. An inviting space to make music with a classic Neve 8048 recording console, walls of colorful tapestries adorning rooms full of vintage instruments.

We are going to dive into questions about many of these classic albums that Jim has produced, engineered, and mixed, and just how he got such wonderful sounds.

You have heard our sponsor ads on the podcast about the Roswell Mini K47 and Delphos mics, both of which are really cool well built mics at affordable price points.

Matt is going to share with us his strategy on How To Build A Mic Locker which will work for the pro or home studio through a system of categorizing condenser mics that should help you intelligently build diversity into your collection, and avoid buying a bunch of microphones that sound more or less the same.

10 bloggers unite for a Rockstar's Roundtable at the Toy Box Studio to tell stories about Summer NAMM 2017.

We have a pretty exciting show this week! I had a great group of audio bloggers, podcasters, and YouTubers staying as guests at my studio, The Toy Box Studio. We threw together a live YouTube webinar where we had a Rockstars Roundtable and gave our 10 best takes of Summer NAMM 2017. Join Dane Myers, Chris Graham, Pete Woj, Warren Huart, Chris Selim, Joe Gilder, Brian Hood, Glenn Fricker, and I as we tell stories about the Summer National Association of Music Merchants 2017!

Lij Shaw goes to Summer NAMM 2017 Nashville TN to learn what's new.

Join me and my friends as I head off to Summer NAMM 2017 in Nashville TN. This is the National Association of Music Merchants and a great opportunity to learn about the newest instruments, amps, hardware and software in the music industry. This year I was fortunate to host a large group of guest audio bloggers, Youtubers, podcasters, producers, and mastering engineers at my studio, The Toy Box Studio. I also got a chance to interview Matt McGlynn from Roswell Pro Audio microphones, and ask some fun questions of random conference goers.

Will Pugh talks about vocal production, recording in small spaces, and mix tricks that helped him reach the Top 40.

Will Pugh is the main songwriter in the Gold selling band, Cartel. Will is also a producer, mixer, artist, and is a friend of our previous guest Bobby Holland, with a room at the same studio, Pentavarit. Will's records with Cartel have sold over half a million copies, and he’s notched two Top 40 hits under his belt. I am psyched to be joining Will in his studio for this interview, and plan to get into some great questions about producing, recording, and mixing a top 40 hit.
